Random Acts of Kindness Week

It's Random Acts of Kindness week this week! February 11 - 17 to be exact :) I know I am always so grateful when someone does something nice for me! I'd love to hear if you've done something kind for someone, please leave a comment and share your story!!!

I'll start by sharing two of my own!

When I was in my early 20's, I lived in Lansing, Michigan. I used to drive to visit my father, in Warren, on my weekend's off. I took my laundry so I could get it done while visiting my dad. On my way back to Lansing, one Sunday afternoon, I drove past a couple of middle aged men who were pulled off to the side of the interstate. One of them had hit a very large deer with his truck and the other was trying to help him pull it off the hood. Those who know me well know that I am freaky afraid of blood. I took the first exit and made a loop to get back to them. I always have baby wipes in my car. I pulled in behind them and gave them my baby wipes and two of my freshly washed hand towels. They were covered in more blood than I care to remember! At this point in my life, I would not advise others to do this. It is just not safe now. Even so, I will never forget the look of astonishment and thanks on their faces and I have never regreted it!

Many years later, while living in New Market, Alabama (just outside of Huntsville) I saw a car pulled off the road, with a man changing a flat tire. Anyone familiar with the south knows that in the summer it is very hot and humid. I approached the man and told him that while I could not help him with his flat, I could give him the ice cold bottle of water I had just purchased when I filled up with gas at the foot of the mountain. Again...the look of amazement and gratitude on his face was so worth my effort!!!

If only everyone were more like that... I try to do little acts when I can... they may not mean much but something is better then nothing...

I once helped get two kids out of the back seat of a car that just got in a accident. The mom was frantic and just stood there screaming, 'my kids, my kids' ... I ran and helped her and stayed with her until the ambulance came. But I try to do little things whenever I can.

Hey, in your deer picture... is it my imagination, or do you see a deer in the tree branches too? Thats really cool!

That was very nice of you. However, don't worry, you cannot catch HIV or Hepatitis from deer blood. Worry more about ticks etc.
